Men's Golf Spring Schedule Preview
December 16, 2019 | Men's Golf
Highlighted by a trip outside the United States mainland and appearances in four different states, the Tennessee men's golf team will compete in four spring tournaments, as well as the annual SEC Championships in April.
Puerto Rico Classic | Feb. 16-18 | Rio Grande, Puerto Rico
Course: Rio Mar Resort River Course (6,902 yards, par 72)
Â
The Vols begin spring play at the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 16 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico – marking the first time since 2011 that Tennessee will compete outside of the mainland United States (last in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico). The tournament is hosted by Purdue University.
Â
The Vols sent individuals to compete in Dorado, Puerto Rico in 2005, but have never competed in Puerto Rico as a team.
Â
Designed by former Australian professional golfer Greg Norman, the Rio Mar Resort River Course sits right beside the Mameyes River. Inspired by the natural terrain of the land, the holes are integrated into existing foliage creating a lush course with views of the El Yunque's mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.

Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic | March 9-10 | San Diego, Calif.
Course: San Diego Country Club (7,033 yards, par 72)
Â
For the third straight season, Tennessee is set to compete in a tournament inside the state of California, as the Vols travel to San Diego for the 13th annual Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic on March 9.
Â
Tennessee has competed at the event, which was previously named the San Diego Intercollegiate, on one other occasion. In 2012, the Vols tied for fourth place.
Â
The San Diego Country Club has hosted two U.S. Women's Amateur Championships, including most recently in 2017. Originally constructed in 1921, the San Diego Country Club course was rated a Top-200 Classic Golf Course in the country according to Golfweek's Best 2019.
Â
The Hayt | March 29-30 | Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Course: Sawgrass Country Club (6,966 yards, par 72)
Â
The Vols will travel to Florida as reigning champions of The Hayt, competing in the event for the 13th straight season. Last season, the Vols won the tournament by 13 strokes after entering the final day in seventh place. Hunter Wolcott captured the individual title, shooting 5-under.
Â
The tournament is held at the former site of the PGA Tour Players Championship (1977-81). The Hayt is rated as the No. 12 collegiate tournament in the country by Golfweek and the No. 75 amateur tournament in the world by Scratch Players Golf.
Â
Mason Rudolph Collegiate | April 3-5 | Franklin, Tenn.
Course: Vanderbilt Legends Club (7,100 yards, par 71)
Â
The Vols close out the regular season at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate in Franklin, Tenn. in a tournament hosted by Vanderbilt. The event is rated as the No. 87 amateur tournament in the world by Scratch Players Golf.
Â
This spring's appearance marks the Vols' second appearance at the Mason Rudolph Collegiate, which dates back to 2001. Last season, Tennessee claimed a third-place finish. Four Vols finished inside the top 30 individually.
Â
SEC Championships | April 22-26 | St. Simons Island, Ga.
Course: Sea Island Golf Club (7,005 yards, par 70)
Â
The Vols take aim at their fourth SEC Championship title in program history at Sea Island Golf Club. This spring's championships mark the 19th year for the SEC Championship to be contested on the Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course.
Â
The SEC has conducted its annual championship on St. Simons Island since 2001. The Seaside Course is also home to the PGA Tour's RSM Classic.
Â
Last season at the SEC Championships, Tennessee finished tied for fifth – its best finish at the conference championships in eight years.
