November 21, 2019 | Men's Golf
The senior has five top-25 finishes in as many events this season with eight rounds of par or better
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's golfer Rhys Nevin was ranked in the latest edition on the Arnold Palmer Cup Rankings, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Thursday.
He was ranked as the No. 14 golfer in the United States and was one of just six players in the SEC to make the list.
Using Golfstat's NCAA Player Ranking as a base, the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking awards bonus points for wins and high finishes and a penalty for poor finishes. The ranking also contains a strength of schedule component.
The top six players in the United States rankings and the top six players in the International rankings automatically qualify for the event with five additional players for each team being chosen by the committee. The final spot will be a coaches' pick.
Entering the spring season, Nevin is just one percentage point back of automatically qualifying in one of the top six positions.
In 14 rounds this fall, Nevin has counted towards the team score 13 times (92.86 percent). This includes five top-25 finishes in as many events. He is one of just two Vols to place inside of the top 25 in every event this season.
He ranks third on the team with eight rounds of par or better and had at least one round of par or better in all five events this fall.
Nevin started off the season with a top-5 finish in the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate, tying for fourth on the individual leaderboard. It was one of two tournaments this fall where he was the Vols top finisher.
The next Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking will be announced February 20. The tournament, consisting of only collegiate golfers, is set to be played at Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland from July 3-5, 2020.
