October 04, 2019 | General
The University of Tennessee dedicates the Doug Dickey Hall of Fame Plaza.
Coach Dickey left an indelible mark on the University of Tennessee. As Tennessee's head football coach from 1964-69, Dickey rebuilt the program, guiding the Volunteers to a national championship and two Southeastern Conference titles. He also introduced UT's famous checkerboard end zones and the "Power T" logo. Later, as the university's athletics director from 1985-2003, he administered a massive facilities overhaul. During his tenure as A.D., Tennessee teams brought home 10 national championships, 38 SEC titles and captured more than 500 first-team All-America honors. Dickey positioned Tennessee as a beacon of excellence in intercollegiate athletics. The University of Tennessee and its letterwinners and donors are proud to dedicate this plaza in his honor today.
