BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee senior Meghan Small earned SEC Female Swimmer of the Week accolades after helping the Lady Vols defeat No. 2 Virginia, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Small won three individual events and helped power UT's 200 medley relay to victory with a monstrous 24.62 leadoff. The relay team's final time of 1:37.83 ranks third nationally.
"Meghan is a fierce competitor," associate head coach Ashley Jahn said. "Her three individual event wins and her leadoff performance in the relay against a competitive Virginia team was a great example of the fire she brings to her team."
The Lineboro, Md., native set three times that rank inside the top 10 in the nation in Saturday's win, beginning with her 53.20 in the 100 yard backstroke which places Small fourth in the country. In the 200 back, she swam a 1:55.06 which is the eighth-fastest time in the nation this season. She rounded out her day with a 1:58.94 in the 200 IM, good for No. 6 nationally.
"It's an honor to get to work with Meghan every day," Jahn said. "We're proud of her hard work and the accomplishments that come out of that work. She's a great example of what it means to be a Lady Vol."
