KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Each Tuesday, we're taking a look at the track & field top-10 records in Tennessee program history. First up: the men's outdoor shot put.

Jordan West eclipsed the Vols' 36-year-old shot put record twice during his emergent 2018 freshman season. He broke the record for the first time at the National Relay Championships at Arkansas and then set the mark at 19.79 meters (64-feet-11.25) to take third at the SEC Championships.
Chuck Locke, a two-time SEC champion and All-American, had held the Tennessee record since 1982 (19.53m, 64-1). He was on hand to congratulate West after his bronze medal performance at the SEC meet in Knoxville.
Assistant coach John Newell has worked with four Vols on the list: West, 2016 Olympian Tavis Bailey, Matthew Hoty and Joseph Maxwell. West and Maxwell are sophomores on the team this season.
