Meenhorst named to Fred Haskins Award Watch List

Fred Haskins Award recognizes the nation's top collegiate golfer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee men's golf junior Jake Meenhorst has been named to the Fred Haskins Award Watch List as announced Friday morning.
The Haskins Award is presented annually by the Haskins Commission to honor the most outstanding collegiate golfer in the United States.
Meenhorst, who was one of 20 players named to the initial watch list, had a breakout performance at the Carpet Capital Collegiate to start the season. After finishing tied for 22nd in the event last season, the Auckland, New Zealand native led the Vols to a win in Georgia. He finished tied for second which was his highest finish as a collegiate golfer.
The junior carded two rounds in the 60s to enter the final round atop the leaderboard. His second round of 66 was a collegiate-low by two strokes.
The Haskins Award winner will be named in early June. Winners of the Haskins Award have gone on to compete in 42 Ryder Cups, win 28 majors, and over 250 PGA Tour events.
