Long, Thronson Earn SEC XC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tennessee senior Zach Long and freshman Katie Thronson earned SEC cross country weekly honors for their performance in the Auburn Invitational, the conference office announced Tuesday.Â
Long (Rutledge, Tenn.) was named the SEC men's runner of the week after capturing his first individual title, winning the Auburn Invitational 6K in 17:43.99. Making his season debut, he broke away from the pack with 2K to go in the race and eventually won by 10 seconds.Â
Thronson (Spokane, Wash.) earned SEC women's freshman of the week honors, leading the Lady Vols to a team victory in the 4K. She finished third overall in a time of 13:25.93, the second top-three finish to open her collegiate career.
Thronson led four Tennessee women into the top 10 of the Auburn Invite, which featured four other SEC schools on this year's conference championship course.
XC REGIONAL RANKINGS: In the week one USTFCCCA South Region rankings, the Tennessee men remained fifth place from the preseason poll. The UT women rose four spots to fifth.Â
