Lady Vols Place 10th at Cougar Classic

Michaela Williams finishes inside of the top 10 with a score of 5-under-par
HANAHAN, S.C. – University of Tennessee women's golf team finished 10th out of 19 teams at the weather shortened Cougar Classic Monday in Hahanan, S.C.
Due to the approach of Hurricane Florence, the 15th Annual Cougar Classic was shortened to 36 holes as it was originally was scheduled for 54 holes. Weather also played a factor in yesterday's round as play was halted with the Lady Vols just a few holes away from completing round one.
This morning Tennessee completed its remaining holes in round one and sat tied for eighth at 3-over. Junior Michaela Williams, who was in the No. 1 spot in the lineup this week, carded an opening round 66 and was just one shot off the lead in second place.
Williams continued to go low in the second round and with five holes to play was 8-under-par for the tournament. After three bogies, she slipped back to 5-under and tied for ninth in the tournament. This gives the Athens, Ala. native her fifth top-10 finish in her Tennessee career.
In the No. 2 spot, Waverly Whiston had a bounce back round in round two recording the Lady Vols low score of the round. Whiston turned in a score of 71 (-1) to help her jump up 28 spots on the individual leaderboard.

On the play of Micheala Williams:
"I'm proud of the way Micheala competed this week. She had a great round going yesterday and finished it off well this morning. She didn't make has many birdies in the second round and lost a few shots on the last few holes. I know she was disappointed but it was a good tournament to start the season." – Coach Judi Pavon
On the affect of the weather:
"We had to finish about four holes this morning and unfortunately two of them were reachable par 5's that played a little longer early in the morning. Although we didn't have a great finish, the players did a lot of good things over the two rounds. We didn't putt very well and didn't take advantage of the par 5's. We will learn from it and be ready for the Mercedes next week."-- Coach Judi Pavon
