Williams Places 6th in NCAA 200m

EUGENE, Ore. — Tennessee junior Mustaqeem Williams placed sixth in the 200-meter dash finals Friday at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.Â
Running in his first championship final, Williams led near the 150-meter mark but could not sustain the pace, crossing the finish line in 20.62 (+0.0).Â
With the sixth-place result, he earned first-team All-America honors for the first time in his career. It has been a standout spring for the Vol in the event; he won the 200m SEC indoor championship and placed second at the SEC outdoor meet.Â
Junior Zach Long also competed Friday night, taking 23rd in the 5,000m (14:28.97).Â
Junior Maya Neal competed in the first four events of the heptathlon. She entered the event seeded 20th but finds herself in 16th with 3,373 points.
Her best point source of the day was in the 100-meter hurdles to start the event; she ran just off her career-best pace in 13.77 seconds, good for 1,011 points.Â
UP NEXT: The championships conclude Saturday with Neal leading off the day with the conclusion of the heptathlon. Senior Cidae'a Woods will contend in the women's triple jump at 6:40 p.m. Eastern (3:40 p.m. Pacific) before fellow senior Shania Collins will be the first Lady Vol to compete in the finals of both the 100m (7:22 p.m. ET/4:22 p.m. PT) and the 200m (8:07 p.m. ET/5:07 p.m. PT).
