Scalise Earns GCAA PING All-America Honors
June 21, 2018 | Men's Golf
KLITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – University of Tennessee graduate Lorenzo Scalise has picked up his second All-America honor in a week, garnering GCAA PING Second Team accolades.
Â
A week prior to earning distinction from the Golf Coaches Association of America, the senior collected second-team accolades from Golfweek.
Â
Scalise, who hails from Milan, Italy, is the eighth Vol in program history to earn All-America distinction. His recognition brings the number of honors accorded to Big Orange men's golfers through the years to 11.Â
Â
He is UT's first All-American since Oliver Goss in 2013 and the program's first to reach second-team status since David Skinns in 2002. In all, 18 Tennessee men have accumulated 24 postseason All-America awards of honorable mention and higher.
Â
A third-place finisher at this year's SEC Championship, Scalise had previously earned first-team all-conference and PING All-Southeast Region accolades after a stellar senior campaign. He led the Vols this season with a 70.34 average and 25 rounds of par or better, both school records.
Â
Scalise completed his four-year Tennessee career with 26 individual top-25 finishes, 13 top-10 outcomes and nine top-five results. This year alone, he tallied seven top-five finishes, including his first career victory at the Yale Spring Invitational. The team captain helped the Vols card seven top-five team finishes in 2017-18, including victories at the East Bay Deli Classic and Yale Spring Invitational.
Â
His 72.11 career stroke average ranks No. 2 in UT history, as does his total of 66 rounds of par or better.
Scalise was named to the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup International Team. He will play July 6-8 at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Évian-les-Bains, France.
In the classroom, the team captain is set to earn SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades for the fourth straight season. He also was a UT Chancellor's Honors recipient for Extraordinary Academic Achievement and the Scholar Athlete Award.
