June 15, 2018 | Track & Field
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Tennessee has three rising sophomores and five newcomers competing this weekend at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, hosted at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Complex.Â
The meet runs Friday through Sunday with the top two finishers in each event earning a roster spot on the U.S. national team for the IAAF World U20 Championships, which will be held next month in Finland.Â
Jordan West leads the returning Vols into the meet. The native of Rahway, New Jersey, earned second-team All-America honors in shot put last week with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA championships. He is seeded third in the shot put and will throw Saturday (full Tennessee schedule below).Â
Fellow sophomore Jalen Tate also competes in the triple jump Saturday, and Hannah Jefcoat follows Sunday in the pole vault.Â
Tennessee incoming freshmen competing include: Cameron Murray and Eric Allen Jr. on the men's side, and Masai Russell, Katie Thronson and Alonie Sutton for the women.Â
Murray, a jumper and hurdler from Atlanta, is tied for the second-fastest entry time in the 110m hurdles (13.53) and is also the fifth seed in the long jump (7.56m).Â
Allen, from Odenton, Maryland, is seeded ninth in the 100m (10.43) and 10th in the 200m (20.94).Â
