NEW ORLEANS — Tennessee sprints coach Tim Hall was named the USTFCCCA South Region Women's Assistant Coach of the Year, the collegiate track coaches association announced Friday.Â
Hall, who was named the USTFCCCA National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year last season after his work with Christian Coleman, has helped guide the women's sprinters to one of the their best seasons as an entire unit.Â
The Lady Vol sprinters earned 10 positions into the NCAA East Preliminary Championships with eight qualifiers moving on to next week's NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The group accounted for four medals at the SEC Track and Field Championships in May, including three silver medal finishes.Â
Senior Shania Collins has enjoyed a breakout season for Tennessee. She earned silver in both the 100 meters and 200 meters at the SEC outdoor championships, her first career conference medals, and set the school record in the 100m in 10.99 seconds.Â
Last week at the NCAA East Prelims, Collins recorded an all-time, all-conditions collegiate best in the 200m, crossing the line in 21.97 seconds with an aiding wind of 5.3 meters per second. She went to advance to Eugene in the 100m and 200m and will also run a leg on the 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams.Â
In addition to Collins, the Tennessee women's sprint unit heading to Oregon includes: Maia McCoy (200m), Felecia Majors (400m), Lenysse Dyer (400m) and Alexis Duncan (100m hurdles).Â
Tennessee has set two women's sprint records during the season. In addition to Collins' 100m time, Duncan broke a 31-year school record in the 100m hurdles when she took second at the SEC championships in 12.79.Â
The NCAA Track & Field Championships will be held June 6-9 at Oregon's Hayward Field. Â
