Lady Vols in 5th After Two Rounds at Bryan Nationals
April 06, 2018 | Women's Golf
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Tennessee concluded day one of the Bryan National Collegiate in fifth place with a total of 591 (+15). The Lady Vols finished up round two with four players in the top 25 and just four strokes behind No. 24 North Carolina who leads the 17-team field with a score of 587 (+11).
"We're in a great position heading into the final round," Head Coach Judi Pavon said. "This is a tough course and it was windy today, so the scores are pretty bunched up. In the morning round we didn't play the last three holes very well but in the late round we handled it better which kept us in reach of the lead."
The Volunteers were paced by freshman Waverly Whiston who shot three-over on the 6,386 yard course, tying for 13th place.
Seniors Anna Newell and Blakesly Warren and sophomore Micheala Williams all tied for 16th overall in the tournament with scores of 148 (+4). The trio carded rounds of 73 and 75 on Friday.
Haley Wagner, a redshirt junior, tied for 84th with a 36-hole score of 162 (+18).
In the team standings, No. 24 North Carolina shot 587 to enter the final round in first place. One shot behind, No. 7 Furman finished the first two rounds 12-over-par while No. 22 Auburn and No. 21 Wake Forest concluded the day tied for third place. Wake Forest's Emilia Migliaccio leads the individual leaderboard with a score of 141 (-3).
The final round of the tournament will be played on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET, weather permitting. If inclement weather moves into the area, the round will be played on Sunday.
"I'm not sure we've ever played in a tournament with so much uncertainty as to when we will play again. We are totally ready to go tomorrow, but if we are canceled we will enjoy the day of rest and watch the Masters and be ready to go for Sunday," Pavon said.
