Off The Tee: Jake Meenhorst

Sophomore Jake Meenhorst is our fifth Vol featured in the "Off The Tee" series of Q&As with members of the 2017-18 University of Tennessee men's golf team.

Let's get to know a little bit about the Auckland, New Zealand, native.

What is your favorite moment of your golf career?
Birdieing six holes in a row on the back nine to win the New Zealand High School Team Nationals for Massey High School in 2014.

What is your favorite part of attending the University of Tennessee?
Being a part of a school with so much passion around its name and history and being able to meet people from across the planet with different backgrounds and goals.

What athletic accomplishment are you most proud of?
Taking up the opportunity to play at The University of Tennessee.

Do you have a favorite professional golfer?
Steven Bowditch

What is your major?
Business exploratory, as of now, but looking towards marketing and management.

What is one random fact about you?
My arm-span is about four inches longer than my actual height.

Favorite hobbies outside of golf?
Swimming at beaches, exploring nature, skiing and finding good music.

Favorite vacation spot?
Taupo Bay, North Island, New Zealand

Favorite food?
Pita Pit, a food chain restaurant in New Zealand that creates a wrap-style food.

Favorite musical artist or group?
Sticky Fingers (Australian Group)

Favorite movie?
The Untouchables

How would you describe your personality?
Easy going and ambitious.

Do you have a favorite movie quote?

What would you do if you won the lottery?
Invest a large portion and donate to charities. Also buy a Porsche 911 Carrera to race around in.

What is the best advice someone has ever given you?
Be positive and take every opportunity that comes.

If you had to participate in one sport besides golf, what would it be?
Surfing

What would your dream job be?
Surfer

Who is your most influential role model?
Brendon McCullum (New Zealand Cricketer)

Is there anyone specific that you model your game after?
Justin Rose, because he does the little things right to become very successful.

What is one item on your "bucket list"?
Travel to Antarctica

What is your favorite thing about being on the golf team at the University of Tennessee?
Being part of a team that all have the same ambitions and drive. Also representing such a prestigious school.

Was there a moment when you knew you wanted to come to the University of Tennessee?
In my case, I had no idea about the university until three months before I started attending. So I never really imagined coming here until it actually happened.
