Six Swimmers Qualify for NCAA Men's Meet
March 07, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Six Tennessee Vols and all five relay teams qualified for the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, the NCAA announced Wednesday.Â
The national meet will be held March 21-24 in Minneapolis.Â
Vols selected include: senior Ryan Coetzee, junior Kyle DeCoursey, junior Matthew Dunphy, senior Sam McHugh, junior Joey Reilman and senior Peter John Stevens.Â
The Vols most notably enter the meet with the second-fastest 200-yard medley time in the country this year. The team of Braga Verhage, Stevens, Coetzee and DeCoursey clocked a time of 1:23.02 to take second in the 200 medley relay at the SEC championships last month.Â
Coetzee and DeCoursey both have top-16 seed times. Coetzee is ranked 13th in the 100 butterfly (45.46). DeCoursey is ranked 13th in the 50 freestyle (19.12) and 16th in the 100 freestyle (42.30).
They will be joined in the meet by veteran divers Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng and Liam Stone. Both Vols won NCAA titles in 2016; Zeng won the platform title and Stone took the 1-meter. Zeng qualified for all three diving events after sweeping the competition at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships this week, and Stone will contest both springboards.
