MINNEAPOLIS — Twelve Tennessee Volunteers will compete this week at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Minnesota's Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.Â
The meet opens Wednesday night with just one event, the 800 freestyle relay, at 6 p.m. The next three days of the championships have a preliminary swimming session at 10 a.m., followed by diving preliminaries with the finals at 6 p.m. (Scroll down for full schedule.)
The Vols have eight individuals competing, six swimmers and two divers, in addition to four relay team members.Â
All five relay teams qualified for the meet, most notably the 200-yard medley relay team. The team of Braga Verhage, Peter John Stevens, Ryan Coetzee and Kyle DeCoursey have the second-fastest time in the NCAA this year at 1:23.02.Â
Individual Vols competing include: seniors Liam Stone, Sam McHugh, Stevens and Coetzee; and juniors Kyle DeCoursey, Joey Reilman, Matthew Dunphy and Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng.Â
Stone and Zeng have both won NCAA titles during their decorated careers. Stone was the 2016 NCAA 1-meter champion, and Zeng won the platform title the same year for Ohio State.Â
The Vols are coming off a 20th place finish at the championships last season, headlined by fourth-place finishes on both springboards for Stone. Tennessee's last top-10 finish came just two years ago, a seventh-place result at Georgia Tech.Â
