2018 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Central
March 13, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Tennessee Lady Volunteers will open the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Wednesday at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
The championships run Wednesday through Saturday. Wednesday opens with just one event, the 800-yard freestyle relay at 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday have morning swimming preliminaries, followed by preliminary diving in the afternoon and championship finals at night. (Scroll down for the full event schedule.)
Ten Lady Vols qualified individually for the championships, a total that includes nine swimmers and one diver. All five relay teams will also compete.
Sophomore Erika Brown leads the way after a breakout season so far. She enters with the top seed in the 100 butterfly (49.85), the third seed in the 50 freestyle (21.39) and the fifth seed in the 100 freestyle (47.17). At the SEC championships last month, she became the second woman ever to swim below 50 seconds in the 100 butterfly.
Fellow sophomore Meghan Small also garnered a top-eight seed. She has the fourth-fastest 200 individual medley time this season (1:53.05). She is also seeded 11th in the 200 butterfly and 18th in the 400 IM (4:06.91).
Tennessee representatives also include: seniors Katie Armitage and Micah Bohon, juniors Madeline Banic and Rachel Rubadue, sophomores Stanzi Moseley and Tess Cieplucha and freshmen Bailey Grinter and Tjasa Pintar.
Rubadue is Tennessee's diving represented, qualifying to compete in all three events. She is a three-time SEC medalist in platform diving, earning silver last month at Texas A&M. As a Columbus native, she will have the vocal backing of family and friends.
Tennessee looks to improve from a 22nd-place finish at the meet a year ago. The Lady Vols' last top-10 finish came in 2014 when the team took seventh. The team's best performance at NCAAs was a third-place result in 2013, fueled by winning three of the five relays.
