Tennessee Finishes Last Chance Meet With 8 Top-10 Times
February 25, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
Tennessee swam eight top-10 times in program history to close out the Last Chance Meet on Sunday at Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
For the weekend in total, Tennessee swam eight total top-10 times in program history and 46 total NCAA B-cut times.
Sophomore Braga Verhage highlighted Day Two of the meet for Tennessee, setting a new personal best in the 100 butterfly at 45.90 seconds during Sunday afternoon's finals. The time was good for the second-fastest in program history in the 100 butterfly and 26th-fastest in the nation this season. That came after Verhage set a then-personal best of 46.33 seconds in the 100 butterfly earlier in the day.
After swimming a 1:41.64 in the 200 backstroke on Saturday (a personal best at the time), sophomore Nathan Murray clocked in at 1:41.26 in Sunday's 200 backstroke finals, improving his personal best and setting the third-best 200 backstroke time in program history.
On the women's side, freshman Tjasa Pintar followed up a personal best in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday (1:00.38) with a new personal best of 1:00.00 on Sunday, the sixth-best time 200 breaststroke in Tennessee history.
In the 1650 freestyle, freshman Amanda Nunan set a personal best and the seventh-best time Tennessee history, finishing at 16:16.98.
The Last Chance Meet is the final qualifier for next month's NCAA championships. A swimmer who is invited in one event can swim additional events that he or she has NCAA B-cut qualifying times.
The women's NCAA swimming championships will take place March 14-17 in Columbus, Ohio, while the men's championships will span from March 21-24 in Minneapolis, Minn.
