Brown Sets Records, Wins Gold to End World Championships

HANGZHOU, China — Tennessee junior Erika Brown closed out the FINA Short Course World Championships with a relay gold and second American record Sunday.

Brown anchored the 200-meter freestyle relay team, bringing Team USA home in a national- and championship-record time of 1:34.03. Her 50 freestyle split was 23.33. The Netherlands took silver by a half second (1:34.55).

The winning American team also included: Madison Kennedy, Mallory Comerford and Kelsi Dahlia. It was Brown's second time on the podium at the meet; she was also a part of the silver medal and American record setting 800 freestyle relay.

The meet marks the official end of fall competition for Brown and senior Kyle DeCoursey, who was also a relay member for Team USA. Associate head coach Lance Asti was also part of the American contingent as an assistant coach for the men's squad.

Tennessee returns to collegiate action with the Bulldog Diving Invitational (Jan. 4 through 6) and a full-squad dual meet at Virginia (Jan. 11).
