November 06, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — For the second week in a row, Tennessee senior Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng and junior Erika Brown earned SEC swimming and diving honors for unbeaten performances.
With Zeng and Brown leading the way, the Tennessee men (3-1) and women (3-1) defeated Purdue and Wisconsin in a double dual meet Friday in West Lafayette, Indiana. It was the first road meet of the season for the Vols.
Zeng, the reigning CSCAA National Diver of the Year, improved his record to 6-for-6 in springboard competitions to start his senior year. He won the 3-meter competition with a season-best score of 439.75 and the 1-meter contest with a score of 393.60.
He has now been named SEC Diver of the Week eight times in his two years on Rocky Top.
Brown put together three individual race wins to pace the Lady Vols against Purdue and Wisconsin, posting season bests in all three events. She took first in the 100-yard butterfly (52.72 - fifth nationally); 100 backstroke (53.02 - seventh nationally) and the 100 freestyle (49.43 - 15th nationally). She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Brown, who won six gold medals at the SEC meet last spring, has won all seven of her individual races to start her junior year. She has now been SEC Swimmer of the Week four times.
