November 20, 2018 | Swimming & Diving
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tennessee senior Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng earned SEC Diver of the Week accolades for a third time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday.Â
Zeng's accomplishments were counted from the last two weeks of competition, which included a dual meet against Texas and Auburn as well as the Texas Diving Invite.Â
Against Texas and Auburn, Zeng (Fujian, China) ran his dual meet winning streak to eight events. He swept the 1-meter (382.60) and 3-meter springboard (413.45) competitions to help lead the Vols to a victory over Auburn and a slim loss to defending NCAA champions Texas.Â
At last week's Texas Diving Invite, Zeng won the 1-meter springboard, placed second on platform and took eighth on the 3-meter springboard against an elite field that featured numerous NCAA finalists.Â
His platform diving score of 466.95 at Texas was his fourth time scoring above 460 points in the event for the Vols. Prior to Zeng's arrival, Tennessee's longstanding platform record stood at 458.95 by Gabi Chereches in 2001. Zeng holds the record at 507.15, becoming the first Vol to score above 500 points in any diving event.Â
In just two seasons of diving for the Vols, Zeng has earned SEC Diver of the Week honors nine times. Last year, he was also voted the CSCAA National Diver of the Year and the SEC Diver of the Year.Â
