Johnson and Russell sign with Tennessee

Coach Brennan Webb inks top two players in the state according to Junior Golf Scoreboard
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee men's golf coach Brennan Webb announced the signing of two players on Thursday.
The first year head coach continues to add top talent from the state of Tennessee, signing Cade Russell from Knoxville and Trenton Johnson from Brentwood. Johnson is rated as the No. 1 player in the state and Russell is the No. 2 player according to Junior Golf Scoreboard. Both player also rank inside of the top-150 in the class of 2019 according to Junior Golf Scoreboard.
"One of our main goals in recruiting is to make sure the best players in the state, if they are able to compete on the national stage, stay in state and go to school here in Knoxville and play for The University of Tennessee. With the signing of Trenton and Cade, we have definitely achieved that goal for the 2019 signing class."
With the addition of Johnson and Russell, the Vols will have 11 players from the state including four from Knoxville alone.
Johnson captured the 2016 Tennessee High School Individual State Championship as a sophomore at Brentwood high school. That year, he was named the the Middle Tennessee Golfer of the Year in addition to earned All-State honors as well as being named the Wilco Golfer of the Year.
Russell, a 2017 and 2018 All-State honoree, won the Individual State Championship in 2018 while helping Christian Academy of Knoxville to State Championships in 2015, 2017 and 2018. Russell is a five-time all-district honoree, taking home the honors on 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. He also was a member of the 2017 and 2018 Tennessee Junior Cup.
He is the first person in Christian Academy's history to play in the state tournament five consecutive years. In the 2018 State Tournament, Russell carded a tournament-low round of 64 en route to winning the individual title.
