BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senior Zhipeng (Colin) Zeng and junior Erika Brown earned SEC accolades for their performances in Tennessee's opening week of swimming and diving, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Tennessee's men and women split their home openers against top-25 foes, losing to Louisville on Thursday before defeating Alabama on Friday at Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
Zeng, the reigning conference and national diver of the year, picked up where he left off with SEC Diver of the Week honors. He won all four springboard competitions between the two meets, notably scoring 404.40 on 1-meter against Louisville and 406.06 on 3-meter against Alabama.
It is his seventh career SEC Diver of the Week honor, having won six times in his first year as a Vol last season.
Brown was named the SEC Swimmer of the Week for the third time in her career, sharing the weekly honors with Auburn's Claire Fisch. She won all four of her individual events, winning the 100-yard butterfly (52.98) and 50 freestyle (22.83) against Louisville and the 100 freestyle (49.94) and 100 backstroke (54.27) in the meet against Alabama.
She also swam on four relay teams, helping the Lady Vols to three wins. Combining all her events on opening weekend, she finished first in seven of eight races.
UP NEXT: Tennessee hits the road for the first time this season for a double dual meet Friday at 1:30 p.m. against Wisconsin and Purdue in West Lafayette, Indiana.
