Long, Thiessen Earn SEC XC Honors for Regular-Season Finale

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tennessee senior Zach Long and freshman Karl Thiessen earned their second SEC weekly honors of the season, the conference office announced Tuesday.Â
Long was named SEC Runner of the Week and Thiessen picked up SEC Freshman of the Week accolades after the two led the Vols to a fourth-place finish at the Arturo Barrios Invitational 8K at Texas A&M. Tennessee defeated all five SEC opponents in the team standings and enter the championship season ranked second in the USTFCCCA South Region.Â
Long recorded the conference's best time of the weekend, running in 24:36.4 to finish eight overall. It was Long's second top-10 finish of the season.Â
Thiessen has earned freshman of the week honors in his last two races. On Saturday, he finished 15th in 24:48.3, his third top-15 result of the season.Â
During the regular season, Tennessee earned six weekly awards from the conference. Katie Thronson was named SEC Women's Freshman of the Week twice.
