MGOLF CENTRAL: Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. – The Tennessee men's golf team will open the 2017-18 season Friday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The tournament runs through Sunday at The Farm Golf Club, a 7,012-yard, par-72 Tom Fazio-designed course.
The field features 15 teams, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee from the SEC; Clemson, Georgia Tech and Virginia from the ACC; Cal from the Pac-12; Kennesaw State and North Florida from the Atlantic Sun; Chattanooga from the Southern Conference; Troy from the Sun Belt; and Dalton State from the Southern States Athletic Conference.
Six of those teams were participants in the 2017 NCAA Championship, including LSU, Virginia and Auburn, who finished ninth through 11th. Alabama, Clemson and Kennesaw State also made last year's NCAA field.

Getting To Know The Vols
- Tennessee returns eight of 11 golfers from a year ago and added two newcomers.
- Key losses include seniors Juan Serrano and Jack Smith, who had the second- and fifth-best stroke averages (73.00, 73.83) on the squad last season among regulars.
- Lorenzo Scalise is the Vols' lone senior and top returnee with a stroke average of 72.17 in 30 rounds a year ago. That number was the best among Vol regulars.
- Scalise's scores counted in 27 of those 30 rounds in 2016-17, and he carded three top-10 tourney finishes as a junior.
- Scalise was UT's top qualifier for this event, coming in at 15-under during UT's qualifying rounds for the tournament.
- Scalise will be joined by three sophomores and a freshman in the Vols' lineup.
- Freshman Chase Roswall earned the opportunity to compete for the Big Orange right out of the gate. He is from Bristol but attended Baylor School in Chattanooga, where he was a two-time Chattanooga Best of the Preps first-team selection.
- Rhys Nevin's score counted in 17 of 21 rounds a year ago, while Jake Meenhorst counted in 12 of 15 and Brayden Garrison's tally was included in 11 of 15. Their averages were 74.22 (7th), 74.07 (6th) and 75.00 (8th), respectively, on the team.
- Head coach Jim Kelson (1,914-1,365-53) embarks on his 20th season as head coach at UT, and he is aided by third-year director of instruction/player development Sean Pacetti.
Tournament Info.
- Round one will begin at 8 a.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 8.
- Tennessee will be paired with North Florida and Troy on day one.
- UT will get started at 9:17 a.m. Friday, as freshman Chase Roswall tees off on 10.
- Roswall will be followed by sophomore Brayden Garrison at 9:28, sophomore Rhys-Nevin at 9:39, sophomore Jake Meenhorst at 9:50 and senior Lorenzo Scalise at 10:01.
Tournament Notes
- This is the 29th year of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, and it is hosted by Georgia Tech.
- Tennessee won the tournament in 2009 with a score of 851.
- Two Vols have claimed medalist honors at the tourney, including Mike Sposa in 1990 (209) and Darren Renwick (210), who tied for the individual title in 2009.
- VFL Juan Serrano is one of 11 players to card holes-in-one on the course during the Carpet Capital Collegiate, doing so on No. 11 in the first round during the 2014 tourney.
