Student-Athletes Participate In Red Zone Awareness
September 19, 2017 | General
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- On Tues., Sept. 19, Tennessee Athletics partnered with the Center for Health Education and Wellness to hold a Red Zone pop-up installation in the Anderson Training Center. The term "Red Zone" is commonly used to refer to the period between the start of school and Thanksgiving break, a time during which students are statistically more at risk for sexual assault.
During the Red Zone event, staff handed out informational cards and "Does Not Mean Yes" t-shirts. Additionally, students were encouraged to sign a large red banner, pledging their intention to help stop sexual assault.
This Red Zone event was one of many to be held across campus during the fall semester, but today's installation was focused specifically on student-athletes. Fletcher Haverkamp, the Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator with the Center for Health Education and Wellness, was on site to speak with students. Tennessee student-athletes reacted positively to the event with many stopping to talk with Haverkamp before adding their names to the banner.
Students are encouraged to wear their "Does Not Mean Yes" t-shirt every Tuesday during September in support of Red Zone awareness. For more information, visit http://wellness.utk.edu/red-zone/.
