KNOXVILLE. Tenn -- Tennessee finished day one of the 21st annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship tied for sixth place (580, +12) with Kentucky. Senior Anna Newell led the Lady Vols with two sub-70 rounds on the 5,897-yard course at Cherokee Country Club on Monday.

Newell started the morning off with two birdies on her first five holes and then played a flawless back nine, carding a birdie on No. 15 to turn in a score of 69. She duplicated the score in the second round and enters Tuesday tied for fourth place (138, -4).

Fellow senior Blakesly Warren shot 73 on her first 18 holes before recording an even-par 71 in round two. The score moved her up four spots into a tie for 23rd place (144, +2).

Rounding out the top 25 for Tennessee, Haley Wagner teed off her first tournament wearing the orange and white with a 70 in the first round. Wagner posted 75 during her second 18 holes to finish the day tied for 25th place (145, +3).

Micheala Williams, a sophomore in UT's lineup, carded rounds of 76 and 72 to tie for 41st place (148, +6) while Waverly Whiston sits tied for 52nd place with a score of 150 (+8). Mariah Smith rounded out UT's lineup and tied for 63rd place (152, +10).

Junior transfer Ariana Macioce is competing as an individual for Tennessee along with Allison Herring. The pair tied for 58th (151, +9) and 79th place (158, +16), respectively.

Illinois and Kent State each posted an eight-under 560 through two rounds to enter the final day of the tournament with a share of the lead. Maryland moved up three spot in the second round to finish the day in third with a 36-hole total of 573.
