Smith Earns SEC Women's Freshman of the Week

Tennessee freshman Abigail Smith is the first UT cross country woman to earn SEC Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee freshman Abigail Smith has been named the SEC Women's Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Southeastern Conference office on Tuesday.
Competing in her first collegiate 6K, Smith finished 27th at the Bulldog SEC Preview on Sept. 9 with a time of 23:07.60. She was third among all freshmen in a race that also featured runners from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, South Carolina, LSU and Mercer.
Smith is the first Tennessee cross country student-athlete to earn SEC weekly honors this season. She is the first UT woman to earn a SEC cross country weekly honor since Chelsea Blaase was named Co-SEC Women's Runner of the Week on Oct. 21, 2014. Smith is also the first Tennessee cross country woman in program history to earn SEC Women's Freshman of the Week. The award started in 2007.
