Vols Tie For Fifth At Carpet Capital Collegiate

ROCKY FACE, Ga. – The Tennessee men's golf team finished 2-under-par for the weekend, tying for fifth place out of 15 schools with a score of 862 in the program's best finish at the Carpet Capital Collegiate since 2011-12.

UT tallied a final-round 290 on The Farm Golf Club course to log its third top-five tournament finish in the past two seasons. The placing and score marked the Vols' finest outcomes at the event since a runner-up showing (856) six seasons ago.

Host Georgia Tech and Alabama tied with 14-under totals of 850, with the Yellow Jackets winning the tourney title in a playoff over the Crimson Tide. Auburn, which matched the final-day 279 scores of GT and UA, wound up third with a 10-under 854. LSU was fourth (860), followed by UT and Florida at 2-under for the weekend (862).

The Gators' Alejandro Tosti, who led the field the first two days, claimed the individual crown with an 11-under 205.

Senior Lorenzo Scalise was Tennessee's top individual finisher, tying for ninth with a 5-under 211 after a final-round 75. The top-10 effort was the sixth of his career. He finished with 14 birdies over the three-day event, including two on Sunday.

Sophomore Jake Meenhorst used a career-best round of 68 to finish as UT's second-best performer and post his second top-25 effort as a Vol. His 4-under final-day score, bolstered by six birdies, moved him to even for the tournament at 216 and tied him for 22nd place overall.

Freshman Chase Roswall, who notched UT's best round of the weekend on Friday with a 67, turned in a 77 on Sunday to garner a tie for 26th overall with a 2-over 218.

Sophomores Rhys Nevin and Brayden Garrison tied for 44th and 54th, respectively, with scores of 222 and 225. Garrison posted his lowest score of the weekend, a 72, that came after three final-day birdies as well as an Eagle on the 498-yard, par-5 No. 12.

The Vols return to action Oct. 1-3, when they play in the Prairie Club Invitational in Valentine, Neb.
