Coleman, Gatlin Advance In 100m At World Championships

LONDON, England -- Tennessee track legends Christian Coleman and Justin Gatlin won their respective men's 100-meter heats on Friday to advance to the semifinals at the London 2017 IAAF World Championships.
Coleman, running in Lane 9, won the first heat in 10.01 (-0.1) to advance. That time was the second-fastest of Friday's six heats.
Gatlin took the fifth heat with a time of 10.05 (+0.9).
On Saturday, Coleman will run in Lane 4 of the third heat, which also features Jamaica's Usain Bolt in Lane 6. Gatlin will run in Lane 6 of the first heat. The first two finishers in each heat and the next two overall fastest semifinal times will advance to the final, which is also on Saturday.
The men's 100-meter semifinals begin on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. ET (7:05 p.m. in London). The final will follow at 4:45 p.m. ET (9:45 p.m. in London).
Tennessee greats Aries Merritt and Tianna Bartoletta will begin competing in their respective events in the coming days. Merritt will hit the track for the men's 110-meter hurdles heats on Aug. 6, starting at 8:15 a.m. ET (1:15 p.m. in London). Bartoletta will begin competing in the women's long jump on Aug. 9 at 2:10 p.m. ET (7:10 p.m. London time).
The 4x100 races will take place on Aug. 12. Coleman and Gatlin will run in the men's 4x100 and Bartoletta will run in the women's 4x100.
