August 25, 2017 | Swimming & Diving
TAIPEI, Taiwan — Tennessee All-American Kira Toussaint took home gold Friday in the 50-meter backstroke at the World University Games.
A 2016 Olympian for the Netherlands, Toussaint touched the wall in 28.07 seconds to tie for the championship with USA's Ali DeLoof.
Toussaint ended her collegiate career in March for the Vols. She was an eight-time All-American and a three-time SEC relay champion in her two years on Rocky Top. She was Tennessee's nominee for the SEC McWhorter Award in the spring.
She is the first Tennessee swimmer to take home gold since Jenny Connolly won the 50 backstroke and took silver in the 100 backstroke in 2011.
