LONDON -- Former Tennessee NCAA champions and All-Americans Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman took silver in Saturday's men's 4x100-meter final of the London 2017 IAAF World Championships at London Stadium.
Gatlin (second leg), Coleman (anchor) and U.S. men's 4x100 teammates Mike Rodgers (first leg) and Jaylen Bacon (third leg) clocked in at a season-best 37.52 in the final. The Great Britain/Northern Ireland quartet of Chijindu Ujah, Adam Gemili, Daniel Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake took gold in a world-leading time of 37.47.
The U.S. men ran the top time (37.70) in Saturday morning's qualifying.
Saturday's men's 4x100 final was also the last professional race in the storied career of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. Bolt ran anchor for Jamaica but pulled up in the final 100 meters with a leg injury.
Tennessee greats will bring home five medals from the London 2017 IAAF World Championships. Last week, Gatlin and Coleman took gold and silver, respectively in the men's 100 meters. On Friday, Tianna Bartoletta took bronze in the women's long jump. On Monday, VFL Aries Merritt finished fifth in the men's 110-meter hurdles.
