Tianna Bartoletta jumped 6.64 meters in qualifying on Wednesday to advance to Friday's women's long jump final at IAAF World Championships
LONDON -- Former Tennessee NCAA champion and All-American Tianna Bartoletta advanced to Friday's women's long jump London 2017 IAAF World Championships final after posting the second-best mark in Wednesday's qualification round at London Stadium.
Bartoletta (formerly Tianna Madison) jumped 6.64 meters (-0.8) on her first attempt. She fouled on her second jump and on her third attempt she leaped 6.48 meters. Only Darya Klishina, a Russian athlete who is competing as a neutral athlete, had a better jump in qualifying at 6.66 meters.
Bartoletta will compete in the women's long jump final on Friday with a 2:10 p.m. ET (7:10 p.m. London time) start. She will also run in the women's 4x100 on Saturday.
Fellow VFLs Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman will run in the men's 4x100 on Saturday.
In June, Bartoletta won the American Championship in the long jump on Day 3 of the USATF Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium. Bartoletta recorded the top three marks of the competition as she jumped 7.05 meters (23-1.75) on her final attempt after leaping 7.01 meters (23-0) on her first and fourth attempts. All six of her marks, would have placed her in the competition's top three. Bartoletta is a two-time world champion (2005, 2015) and the reigning Olympic Gold Medalist in the long jump.
