Vol Men's Golf Earns GCAA Academic Honors

Lorenzo Scalise, Jack Smith named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars and Tennessee men's golf earns All-Academic Team recognition
NORMAN, Okla. -- The Tennessee men's golf team has earned GCAA All-Academic Team honors and Lorenzo Scalise and Jack Smith have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Last week, the Tennessee men's golf team was recognized as one of 187 All-Academic Teams, which requires a team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Vols posted a 3.17 Spring 2017 GPA and have a 3.22 cumulative GPA.
To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
Scalise competed in 10 events this past season and led the team with a 72.17 round average (minimum two events), 19 rounds of par or better and three top 10 finishes. His best finish was in the fall's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate when he tied for fifth at 10-under.
Earlier this summer, Smith received a 2017 Scholar Athlete Award at the University of Tennessee's Chancellor's Honors Banquet. Smith competed in six events this past year with a 73.83 round average. His best showing was in the East Bay Deli Classic in the fall when he took second place at 5-under.
