Rhys Nevin won the Wilmslow Crow and Spencer Cross won the Smoky Mountain Amateur
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee's Rhys Nevin and Spencer Cross earned a pair of impressive wins over the past week.
Last week, Nevin won the Wilmslow Crow by two strokes after shooting 68-73--141 (-3) at Wilmslow Golf Club in Cheshire, England. His 4-under 68 in the first round was the low round of the 36-hole tournament.
Over the weekend, Cross won the Smoky Mountain Amateur, which was held at Sevierville Golf Club and Gatlinburg Country Club. Cross won the 51-player tournament by five strokes at 5-under 138.
Both Nevin and Cross have been strong this summer, playing in a variety of amateur events. Earlier this month Nevin tied for third place at a British Open qualifier in Kirby In Ashfield, England, and just missed making The Open after losing in a three-hole playoff. Cross teamed with fellow UT freshman Chase Roswall to win the 47th Annual Tennessee Four-Ball Championship on July 15 at The Country Club in Morristown, Tennessee.
