Wilcox Earns First Alternate Status In U.S. Amateur Qualifying

Tennessee's Sean Wilcox tied for fourth in U.S. Amateur Qualifying at Lantana Golf Club in Argyle, Texas
ARGYLE, Texas -- Tennessee's Sean Wilcox tied for fourth place at 5-under at the U.S. Amateur Qualifier at Lantana Golf Club in Argyle Texas. The top three qualifiers advanced to the 2017 U.S. Amateur and Wilcox is the first alternate.
Wilcox, who hails from Frisco, Texas, carded a 2-under 70 in Monday's first round and shot 3-under 69 on Tuesday. He tallied 11 birdies over 36 holes.
Matthew Perrine posted the best score at 12-under and Ian Snyman (9-under) and Blake Elliott (8-under) rounded out the top three.
Wilcox redshirted the 2016-17 season. He was the 2015 Texas Association of Private and Patriarchal Schools Individual State Champion and a member of the 2015 TAPPS State Championship winning team.
The 2017 U.S. Amateur runs from Aug. 14 through Aug. 20. Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, California, will serve as the stroke play co-host venue with Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California. Riviera Country Club is the championship venue.
