BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Tennessee men's golf senior Juan Carlos Serrano has been named to the SEC Community Service Team, as announced by the Southeastern Conference office on Wednesday.
Serrano leads the Tennessee men's golf team in community outreach this school year. He has participated in a variety of events, including a 10-day trip to Brazil with UT's VOLeaders group of student-athlete ambassadors to work with local NGOs and learn more about the Brazilian culture. Serrano has also worked extensively with She Wins Mexico, which is an organization that seeks to empower women through education and sports. He helped host UT's annual Voloween event, a safe and fun Halloween event for local Knoxville children. Serrano also served as a mentor and golf instructor for the First Tee of Tennessee Clinic, serving the local Boys and Girls Club.
Serrano has competed in eight events this season and ranks second on the team (minimum two events) with a 73.00 round average and 11 rounds of par or better. He has three top-25 finishes on the year, including a tie for eighth in the East Bay Deli Classic on Nov. 1. He shot even-par 216 at the East Bay Deli Classic and at the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 2. Serrano's best 54-hole score was his 4-over 214 in stroke play at the 2017 SEC Championship on April 24.
In March, Serrano earned Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada status for 2017 after tying for 12th at the USA West #1 Q-School at Carlton Oaks Country Club.
