BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After a strong season at the top spot of the Tennessee women's tennis team's lineup, senior Brittany Lindl was named second-team All-SEC, as the league office announced its annual tennis awards Thursday.
Lindl, a native of Panama City, Fla., is the 32nd Volunteer to All-SEC honors. She is now the third Vol on the current roster to receive the award, joining sophomore Sadie Hammond (2016) and senior Eve Repic (2014).
“I’m incredibly honored to be named to the All-SEC second team,” Lindl said. “The entire team has worked so hard and improved so much throughout the course of the year, and I'm thankful to have the team and coaches pushing me and helping me the improve every day.”
Over the course of her senior yea, Lindl amassed 17 wins in singles, including seven ranked victories, and 12 in doubles. She also cracked the ITA rankings for the first time in her career, peaking at 42nd in singles and 52nd in doubles.
Lindl claimed ranked wins over Ole Miss' Arianne Hartono and LSU's Jade Lewis, who was 18th at the time, to help the Vols pick up two important wins over SEC opponents.
This isn’t the first honor for Lindl on the season. Her and Repic claimed the doubles title at the annual Tennessee Fall Invite this season.
Tennessee will now prepare for the NCAA Tournament, which will begin the second weekend of May. UT last made the postseason as a team during the 2014 season, when Lindl and Repic were freshmen. The selection show will take place on May 2 at 5:30 p.m.
“Our goals as a team for the rest of the season are to continue to work hard and improve every day over these next couple weeks, as we have the entire season, and get ready to compete in the NCAA Tournament,” Lindl said.
Because of her rankings, Lindl is also in consideration for the singles and doubles tournaments, which will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on May 18-29.
