Vols Finish 13th at SEC Championship

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. -- Tennessee junior Lorenzo Scalise fired a 3-under 67 on Saturday to climb 17 spots and tie for 18th following three rounds of stroke play at the 2017 SEC Men's Golf Championship at Sea Island Golf Club's Seaside Course. The Vols finished stroke play in 13th place.

Vanderbilt secured the top seed for Sunday's match play with a team score of 11-under 829. Texas A&M (5-under) and LSU (3-under) rounded out the top three teams. The top eight teams advancing to Sunday's match play are Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Ole Miss and Missouri.
Florida's Alejandro Tosti is the 2017 SEC individual champion as he beat Vanderbilt's Patrick Martin in a two-hole, sudden-death playoff. Tosti and Martin each finished at 10-under 200 after 54 holes.
Tennessee its team score by 15 strokes from the second round to the third round. The Vols combined to shoot 1-under 279 on Saturday to finish stroke play in 13th place at 34-over 874.
Scalise's 3-under 67 was his best round of the tournament and he finished tied for 18th at 2-over 212. He played a bogey-free round and tallied birdies on the fourth, 11th and 17th holes.
Senior Juan Carlos Serrano shot 14 spots up the leaderboard and tied for 27th at 4-over 214. Serrano shot a 2-under 68 on Saturday, posting birdies on the second, sixth and 14th holes.
Freshman Brayden Garrison moved up nine spots, tying for 57th at 13-over 223. Garrison carded a 1-under 69 in the third round and notched birdies on the third, 11th, 13th and 16th holes.
Freshman Rhys Nevin tied for 64th at 18-over after shooting 8-over 78 in the third round. Redshirt freshman Nolan Ray placed 69th at 23-over 233, carding a 5-over 75 in his final 18 holes of stroke play.
