Vols Move Up Five Spots at Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, SC -- Led by Anna Newell's score of 69 (-3), Tennessee recorded a team total of 286 (-2) in the second round to move into a tie for eighth place at the Clemson Invitational on Saturday. The Volunteers have a total score of 588 (+12) going into Sunday's final round.

Newell's three-under-par effort boosted her overall score to 143 and has her tied for 12th place. The junior from Tampa has a Par 5 average of 4.63, which tied for fourth in the field after two days.
Freshman Micheala Williams carded 70 (-2) in the round, and is tied for 35th place while Blakesly Warren improved her overall score to 149 with a one-over-par 73. The total lands her in a tie for 43rd place entering Round Three.
Senior Teleri Hughes, who is competing as an individual for the Vols, shot 75 (+3), and is tied for second in the tournament in pars with 29.
Hannah Pietila shot 76 (+4) and Lucia Polo recorded 74 (+2), tying for 60th place with two-day totals of 151.
No. 8 Furman (568, -8) remains atop the leaderboard for the second straight day. No. 5 Florida and No. 6 Florida State both sit one stroke behind the Paladins with team scores of 569 (-7). Texas' Sophia Schubert carded a 67 (-5) on Saturday to take over first place (136, -8) on the individual leaderboard.

Following the Clemson Invitational, the Vols compete in the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., on April 21-23.
