SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Freshman Rhys Nevin is tied for 15th at 1-under after two rounds and the Tennessee men's golf team sits in eighth place after the first 36 holes of the 2017 Desert Mountain Intercollegiate at Desert Mountain's Outlaw Course.

The Vols shot 290 in the second round, shaving eight strokes off of their first-round score of 298 to head into Sunday's final round at 12-over 588. Host school Michigan leads the 12-team field at 14-under 562. Northwestern and Kansas are tied for second place at 8-under.
Michigan's Reed Hrynewich holds the individual lead at 10-under 134. Alabama's Lee Hodges and Purdue's Fernando Barco are tied for second place at 7-under.
Nevin was steady through the first two rounds. He was tied for ninth after shooting 1-under 71 and posting four birdies (holes No. 2, No. 3, No. 12, No. 16) in the first round. Nevin carded an even-par 72 in the second round with a birdie on the 14th and a bogey on the 11th.
Senior Juan Carlos Serrano shot 19 spots up the leaderboard in the second round, following his 5-over 77 with a 1-under 71. He is currently tied for 35th at 4-over 148. Serrano had four birdies in the first round and five in the second round.
Junior Lorenzo Scalise and freshman Jake Meenhorst are tied for 46th at 7-over 151. Scalise moved up 13 spots when he carded an even-par 72 in the second round. After posting an eagle on the 16th hole and a birdie on the second hole in his first 18, Scalise tallied five birdies in the second round. Scalise is tied for the best par 5 scoring at 6-under on par 5s with a 4.25 stroke average.
Meenhorst improved his score by one stroke, shooting 4-over 76 in the first and 3-over 75 in the second. He had two birdies in the first round and four in the second.
Sophomore Nolan Ray is tied for 49th at 8-over 152. He shot 2-over 74 in the first round and 6-over 78 in the second. Ray had two birdies and an eagle on the par 5 16th in the first round.
Tennessee will start Sunday's final round from the 11th tee starting at 9:15 a.m. MT. The Vols are grouped with Washington State and Utah.
