Murray Competes at World Cross Country Championship

KAMPALA, Uganda – Tennessee freshman Megan Murray competed at the IAAF World Cross Country Championship on Sunday morning at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Murray took 83rd place with a time of 23:35 as she was the sixth American to cross the finish line on a hot afternoon race. The competition began at 2:30 p.m. locally in Uganda.
Rain was predicted in the forecast, but stayed away making for a hot day. The course was extremely hilly and included grown grass and barriers throughout the course.
“I am so proud of Megan,” director of track & field/cross country Beth Alford-Sullivan said. “She did a great job representing the USA and Tennessee at these world championships. This experience of racing the best in the world will pay huge dividends in her future as a Vol.”
The United States team took 12th place in a competition with athletes from 30 different nations. The USA scored 212 points, one point behind Peru in 11th. Ethiopia won the team championship with 19 points, Kenya took second with 20 points and Uganda finished in third with 63 points.
Uganda hosted its first-ever international track and field competition.
