Vols Finish 8th At Hayt Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Freshman Rhys Nevin posted the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career, sophomore Nolan Ray carded a 4-under 68 in Sunday's third round to finish in the top 15 and the Tennessee men's golf team placed eighth in the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club.

Tennessee finished at 21-over for the tournament after turning in a 13-over 301 in the third round. Host North Florida won the team title at 7-over. Jacksonville was the runner-up at 10-over and UCF and Campbell tied for third at 11-over.
Army's Peter Kim took home the individual title, finishing at 6-under 210.
Nevin carded a 2-over 74 in the final round and tied for ninth at 2-over 218. He had birdies on the second, eighth, ninth and 11th holes on Sunday and was 1-under for the tournament at the turn. Nevin made his big leap up the standings on Saturday when he shot 5-under 67 in the second round and surged up 42 spots.
Ray, who competed as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, moved up 33 spots and tied for 14th place at 3-over 219. He tallied five birdies on Sunday (No. 5, No. 6, No. 11, No. 14, No. 15) and his 4-under 68 was the best round of his collegiate career.
Senior Juan Carlos Serrano shot 1-over 73 in the third round and moved 11 spots up the leaderboard to tie for 27th at 6-over. He made birdies on the 16th and 17th holes.
Junior Lorenzo Scalise finished tied for 32nd at 7-over after shooting 3-over 75 in the third round. Freshman Jake Meenhorst tied for 37th at 8-over and senior Jack Smith tied for 68th at 19-over.
The Vols will next compete in the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Michigan, from March 4-5 at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona.
