SEC Swimming & Diving Championships - Day 2 Quotes
February 15, 2017 | Swimming & Diving
Recap | Final Stats
Madeline Banic | Tennessee | 50 Free
(On winning title in upset)
"It was amazing. I honestly was not expecting that. I definitely had it in my vision to go a best time, but to drop that much in one night was incredible. I didn't even realize I had done it until my friend came over and was hugging me. It was amazing. I don't think I have ever been so happy and so claustrophobic at the same time. That race was definitely for the Lady Vols. I wanted to go out there and get those points for them and go towards our goal of winning SECs. It was very important and it was amazing to have family there surrounding."
Chase Kalisz | Georgia | 200 IM
(On winning the 200 IM by .02 seconds)
"It was a little sloppy. It's not really where I wanted it to be or where I think it should be. But it's all about racing right now and I'm happy with that. I don't think about records or times at this meet. It's all about scoring as many points as I can for the team, so I'm more happy about that."
Caeleb Dressell | Florida | 50 Freestyle & 200 Freestyle Relay
(On 50 free)
"There's room for improvement, but I'm happy with the time for where I'm at now."
(On 200 free relay)
"It was a great race, and it's always nice to win that. To have Enzo (Martinez-Scarpe) on that with us -- it's his first year here (on the relay), and he deserves it more than anyone on this relay. I was just happy to hear him yelling after the race and everyone just getting hyped up. It's an honor to win that relay, and we got the job done."
Lauren Reedy | Missouri | 1-Meter
(On winning title)
"I was really proud of the way I got to dive yesterday and today. For me it's all about, `did I dive with courage or did I dive fearful?' I can say with confidence that both days I dove with courage, and that's important to me. That's kind of the first time I ever won anything. I tend to come close, so it was cool to finally finish on top. To get the title is the icing on the cake."
Emily Cameron | Georgia | 200 Free Relay
(On winning title)
"I think we needed this to end today on a good note and to get us started for (Thursday). I think Thursday is going to be a good day for us. I've never seen a UGA team not thrive in the face of challenges. We'll keep working these next few days and hopefully come out on top."
Dave Parrington | Tennessee | Diving Coach
(On Rachel Rubadue's performance in the 1M springboard)
"It was but she has done well. I cannot remember what she scored last year in the prelims of this event, but I think it was a pretty similar score. She dove well. She missed her second to last dive, her fifth dive, a little bit. I kind of felt like she needed to be in between 45 and 50 points (on that dive) to be able to make it to the final. She came up a little short on that. She has been struggling with her twists a little bit this year so that was unfortunate. For the most part, she has competed well and finished with a good strong dive. She just needed to be a little sharper and she would have been right back. It is disappointing not to be in the finals, but I felt pretty good about the way she actually dove and competed. Emily Pelletier today had another career high so she is really doing a fantastic job showing off her game and did some good things in her first SECs. We will take that, and they will get a good rest for tomorrow and come back ready to fire away in the platform on Friday."
