AJ Newell Earns 2018 LPGA Tour Status

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Former Tennessee women's golf standout AJ Newell earned conditional status on the LPGA Tour for the 2018 season after finishing Stage III of LPGA Qualifying School tied for 32nd place.
Newell, a 2015 UT graduate, shot a one-over-par 361 during the five-round event. She opened Stage III with a 73 and carded three consecutive rounds of par or better (72-71-72) before shooting 73 in the final round on Sunday.
A 2012 All-SEC selection and 2015 WGCA All-American, Newell ranks 11th in Tennessee's record book with a career average of 75.16. The Tampa, Florida, native shot 73.24 through 33 rounds during her senior season at UT, leading the Lady Vols to the quarterfinals of the 2015 NCAA Championship en route to a seventh place individual finish.
Newell is the eighth player in program history to earn membership into the LPGA. She is the first since fellow LVFL Erica Popson earned full status by tying for ninth place in the final stage of the 2013 LPGA Qualifying Tournament.
