Stone Selected for 2018 Commonwealth Games
December 23, 2017 | Swimming & Diving
Tennessee senior diver Liam Stone was selected to represent New Zealand at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.Â
The Auckland native will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. It is his second Commonwealth Games appearance, having competed as a 17-year-old in 2014.Â
"Liam has been an outstanding diver in terms of his individual performance this year," said Simon Latimer, New Zealand diving high performance director. "He put together his best international performance in the FINA Grand Prix in Canada by finishing second in the open event in a field of Olympic finalists so that was a great result."
LSU's Lizzie Cui will also represent New Zealand in diving.Â
Stone is the reigning SEC Diver of the Year after a record-setting performance as a junior. During the 2017 championship season, he set a meet record en route to winning the 1-meter springboard title (468.30). He was also fourth place in both springboard events at the NCAA championships.Â
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held April 4-15, shortly after Stone finishes his collegiate diving career for the Vols.Â
