GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tennessee redshirt junior Colin Zeng captured the platform diving title Sunday at the USA Diving Winter National Championships.Â
Zeng moved from second to first during the finals, scoring 450.85 on the final day to overtake Jordan Windle of Texas with a three-round score of 1283.55. Windle scored 1263.50.
Zeng made his move on the second dive, hitting a back 3 1/2 somersault tuck for 9s and 10s to score 94.05.Â
He is the first Vol to take first at the USA Diving Winter Nationals since Michael Wright won the 1-meter title in 2010.Â
Zeng, who has been named SEC Diver of the Week four times already this season, took two top-two finishes at the meet. He was second in the 3-meter springboard competition.Â
"It was dramatically good diving," Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington said. "Colin did an awesome job and got a couple 10s on his second dive. It was really exciting stuff. He put together a good list in a good competition with Jordan Windle of Texas. it was a spectacular meet for Colin. He left some points on the board too and that bodes well for the future."
