KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee diving coach Dave Parrington announced the addition of two divers, Matthew Wade (Mallorca, Spain) and Rachel Renner (Woodstock, Georgia), who will join the team in August 2018.Â
Wade comes to the Vols with plenty of international experience and success.Â
Earlier this year, he was the 1-meter springboard goal medalist at the International Youth Diving Meet in Dresden, Germany, the highest level youth diving event after the world junior championships. He was the 2017 Spanish junior winter national champion on 1-meter, 3-meter and 3-meter synchro.Â
In senior-level competition, Wade was a silver medalist on 1-meter and took bronze on 3-meter at the Spanish senior winter national championships and took fourth place on 3-meter at a FINA Grand Prix event in Madrid.
"I'm absolutely excited to have Matthew sign to be a member of our team next year," Parrington said. "He's certainly shown an enormous amount of talent and has developed over the course of the year to where he is highly ranked among Europe's junior divers, and I have no doubt when he comes into a training environment such as ours that his potential for great success is enormous."
Renner captured the 1-meter springboard title at the Class 6-7A Georgia High School State Championship last season for Sequoyah High School. She is a two-time NISCA/Speedo All-American.Â
"Rachel is a young lady who I've known a number of years through our annual diving camps," Parrington said. "I'm extremely excited for Rachel to join us. She has enormous potential to develop in our strong program. She also has very strong character; her personality is a good fit for our team."
