WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Tennessee swimming and diving program opens the 2017-18 regular season Friday with its annual dual meet at UNC Wilmington.Â
The meet starts at 2 p.m. at Seahawk Natatorium. Four divers from the University of Richmond are also competing.Â
Every year, Tennessee travels to Wilmington and nearby Wrightsville Beach for training and team building to begin the regular season. Weekend events will also include an open water race in the ocean with the UNCW team on Saturday, weather permitting.Â
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America released its first top 25 polls of the 2017-18 season Wednesday. The UT women checked in at No. 14 and the men are No. 18.Â
The UNCW meet and trip were cancelled last year because of Hurricane Matthew.Â
The freshmen got their first taste of collegiate competition at the Orange and White Intrasquad Meet, but Friday marks the first regular season meet for the UT newcomers. Tennessee has 21 freshmen (9 men, 12 women) and a pair of transfers: Stanzi Mosely and diver Colin Zeng. Â
