Brown, Zeng Earn SEC Weekly Honors
October 31, 2017 | Swimming & Diving
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tennessee sophomore Erika Brown and junior Colin Zeng earned SEC weekly swimming and diving honors, the conference announced Thursday.Â
Brown was named SEC Swimmer of the Week for the first time this season, and Zeng earned SEC Diver of the Week honors for the second time. Tennessee women (4-1, 1-1 SEC) swept a double dual meet against Indiana and Kentucky and the UT men (4-1, 2-0) defeated Kentucky but lost to No. 1 Indiana.Â
Brown led the Tennessee women with two race wins as the Lady Vols beat No. 8 Indiana and No. 15 Kentucky. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native won the 100 butterfly in 52.61 — currently the third-fastest time in the NCAA this season — and the 50 freestyle in 22.65. She also took second in the 100 freestyle in 49.45. All three results were NCAA B-cut times.Â
Zeng, the junior newcomer from Fujian, China, cracked 400 points on the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards in the same meet for the first time this season. He won the 1-meter springboard with a season-best score of 414.35, besting three fellow top-eight performers at last year's NCAA final, and took second on 3-meter with a score of 400.70.Â
Tennessee is back in action Thursday with a road meet at Louisville beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern.
